Common Core State Standards

Common Core State Standards (CCSS) are an updated set of curricular standards that have been developed with the intention of unifying curricula and standards across all 50 states. Schools in California will teach to these standards beginning with the 2014-15 school year. For more information click here EGUSD - Common Core State Standards .

For a summary of the CCSS in a short 3 minute video, please click on the following link CCSS Video .  This video was presented on our morning bulletin for all of our students to see.

Currently, the staff at Franklin High has been participating in professional development provided by the district, site, and outside programs to effectively assist in implementing these new standards.

The following link provides information by grade level for K-8 and for English language arts/literacy and mathematics for 9-12. The guides are provided in English and Spanish courtesy of the National PTA. CCSS Parent Guides

Voyage across land and sea, through the underworld to the top of Mt. Olympus in Franklin High School’s production of The Odyssey. Franklin Theatre Company’s dramatic adaptation of Homer's myth begins with a modern young woman who is struggling to understand Robert Fitzgerald's translation of The Odyssey. A classical muse appears, and the young woman is transformed into the goddess Athena--a tireless advocate for Odysseus in his struggle to get home. With her trademark irreverent and witty twist on classic works, playwright Mary Zimmerman brings to life the story of Odysseus's ten-year journey, depicting his encounters with characters such as Circe, the Cyclops, Poseidon, Calypso, the Sirens, and others.  Muses and monsters introduce this epic myth of the brave and courageous Odysseus as he valiantly seeks his homeland and the arms of his wife and child. Thirty-five actors portray over 85 characters in this sometimes comic, sometimes harrowing, but always thrilling adventure. Tickets are available now at the Franklin High School concession stand or online at http://ftc.ticketleap.com for $10 general admission and $8 for children under 12, seniors over 55, and students with ASB. The show runs on October 28th and 29th and November 3rd, 4th, and 5th at 7:00 PM. Saturday matinees are on October 29th and November 5th at 2:00 PM. All performances will be held on Franklin High’s campus in the Black Box Theatre.
