The Hour of Code is an opportunity for every student to try computer science for one hour. During Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 9-15), we're making history and recruiting 10 million to join in and do the Hour of Code.
Alice is a 3D programming environment where students can create animated movies or interactive games. Alice employs a unique graphic programming language allowing users to drag and drop commands in a logical sequence to choreograph a series of objects placed in a virtual world. The virtual world is the stage on which the animation is carried out and the story is told.
SNAP (formerly BYOB) is a visual, drag-and-drop programming language. It is an extended reimplementation of Scratch (a project of the Lifelong Kindergarten Group at the MIT Media Lab) that allows you to Build Your Own Blocks. It also features first class lists, first class procedures, and continuations. These added capabilities make it suitable for a serious introduction to computer science for high school or college students.
App Inventor lets you develop applications for Android phones using a web browser and either a connected phone or emulator. The App Inventor servers store your work and help you keep track of your projects. Code.org and the Computing in the Core coalition are coming together to provide an array of "Hour of Code" activities for this year's Computer Science Education Week taking place on December 9 - 15, 2013.
We are pleased to be offering new tutorials in the form of short, user-friendly videos that anyone can follow to build their first mobile apps. Check out the preview of our Hour of Code!
