Common Core State Standards

Common Core State Standards (CCSS) are an updated set of curricular standards that have been developed with the intention of unifying curricula and standards across all 50 states. Schools in California will teach to these standards beginning with the 2014-15 school year. For more information click here EGUSD - Common Core State Standards .

For a summary of the CCSS in a short 3 minute video, please click on the following link CCSS Video .  This video was presented on our morning bulletin for all of our students to see.

Currently, the staff at Franklin High has been participating in professional development provided by the district, site, and outside programs to effectively assist in implementing these new standards.

Getting to the Core of the Matter

The Elk Grove Unified School District is committed to ensuring that our staff, parents and students understand the changes taking place with the Common Core State Standards. To further these efforts, the District has developed a new newsletter “Getting to the Core of the Matter” that will be distributed monthly through April. Please click on the pdf below to read the most current Getting to the Core of the Matter newsletter.

The LegiSchool Project's Real World Civics Summer Internship

The LegiSchool Project's Real World Civics Summer Internship gives a select number of high school students the opportunity to experience state government first hand. Students gain not only practical skills from the internship, but are also exposed to all branches of state government, as well as volunteer experience at a local community-based organization. Students who are currently juniors or seniors are eligible to apply.

The five-week internship will provide interns with positive examples of public service, the political process, and state government in general.  The application deadline is Friday, April 18th.  See website attached for an application and more information.
